EXECUTIVES-IN-RESIDENCE

Bowie State University's Executive-In-Residence program brings seasoned industry leaders to campus to share more than their expertise. They bring their networks, their standards and a firm belief that Bowie State students belong in the most competitive rooms. This series profiles three of them: media executive Al Reynolds, award-winning broadcaster Lou Holder and fashion and entrepreneurship veteran Maggy Francois. "Our students have the talent. What too many of them have not had is access to the people and the rooms where careers are made," said Provost Guy Amoussou. "These executives have spent their careers in those rooms. They are here to open doors and make sure our students are ready to walk through them."



Lou Holder Teaches Bulldogs to Speak Up and Show Up


Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Lou Holder is helping students strengthen their communication skills through class instruction and campus speaker programs that encourage meaningful dialogue and professional growth. He is motivated by his family's own positive experience at BSU, and encourages all students to be confident, authentic and Bowie Bold.

Al Reynolds Brings Decades of Media and Corporate Industry Access to Bowie State


Drawing on more than 25 years of experience across corporate, media, entertainment and higher ed, Reynolds is helping modernize the BSU's media ecosystem while connecting students to the skills, networks and professional experiences needed to succeed in competitive industries.

For nearly three decades as an educator, Francois has used the power of relationships, storytelling and self-belief to open doors for students and aspiring entrepreneurs. At Bowie State, she combines mentorship and marketing to help Bulldogs turn ideas into reality.

U.S. Senator Alsobrooks Hosts Real Men, Real Talk Discussion At Bowie State University


Along with MedStar Health and United Way of the National Capital Area, the senator brought a discussion and community fair dedicated to men, their health and a stronger community to campus. President Aminta H. Breaux, County Executive Aisha Braveboy, USM Regent Yvette Lewis and Maryland State Delegate Adrian A. Boafo joined the discussion. 

Disney on the Yard Brings Career Pathways to Bulldogs Across Media, Entertainment, Tech and Business


On Sept. 15, the campus welcomed representatives from Disney for a career exploration program that connected students with internships, mentorship opportunities and early career pathways at one of the world's leading entertainment companies. 

Bulldog Pride Hits the Road With a Battle Against Ranked Alabama A&M


Bowie State fell 45-3 to Alabama A&M in Huntsville on Sept. 19, despite controlling possession for more than 34 minutes. BSU was well represented by our student-athletes, cheerleaders and the Symphony of Soul marching band.

Coach Dawson Odums and the Bulldogs Get Their First Win of the Season


This victory marks Coach Odums' debut win as head coach of the 2026 football squad. Victorious on the road against Elizabeth City State, the team takes the momentum into the home opener against Shaw University on Oct. 3.

Victoria Boomer Finds Her Calling in Social Work and Environmental Justice


Boomer is a senior who spent the summer exploring how conditions such as air quality and food deserts impact vulnerable communities. The experience broadened her understanding of how wider issues including disaster preparedness intersect with health and social work, reinforcing her long-term commitment to advocacy and leadership.

Monique Alston’s Prescription for Growth Revives Nursing Program’s Impact


Under Alston’s leadership, the Department of Nursing has dramatically expanded enrollment, secured millions in grant funding and launched Maryland’s only Ph.D. program in nursing education.

KJ West Takes His Shot on Basketball’s Biggest Playground


Bowie State redshirt senior guard KJ West earned national recognition after competing in the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic at New York City's legendary Rucker Park, capping a standout season. The graduate student credits perseverance for his journey and hopes to continue a professional basketball career.

Register for Campus Access

Registration is required for campus access on Oct. 24. If you purchase a football game ticket, it also serves as your campus registration. If you do not attend the game, you must complete a general registration. 


Free Rides: Oct. 24 (All Day)


The MTA will offer free MARC fares to all Homecoming attendees on Saturday. No tickets or passes are required. Simply board any Penn Line train and let the conductor know you are traveling to the Bowie State University stop.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Remember to register for campus access and campus closes at 7 p.m.

Brent Swinton, vice president for philanthropic engagement and executive director of the Bowie State University Foundation, highlighted how transformative gifts from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott helped fuel Bowie State University's Campaign for Excellence. The campaign raised $128.5 million for scholarships, research, academic programs and campus improvements while expanding the university's endowment beyond $50 million.
