Dear Bowie State University Faculty and Staff,

As we approach the close of another academic year, I extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for your unwavering commitment and contributions to another successful year at Bowie State University. Your dedication, innovation and resilience have helped us navigate a period of unprecedented change in higher education across our nation.

In the face of evolving challenges, including the budget constraints we discussed at our recent Budget Forum, your efforts have continued to uplift our students and advance the mission of our institution. For those who were unable to attend the Budget Forum, I encourage you to visit the Division of Administration & Finance’s website section to review their presentation and stay informed as we work together to steward our resources wisely.

This year is especially meaningful as we continue to celebrate the 160th Anniversary of Bowie State University. It is a moment to reflect on the legacy we are part of — and the future we are building together. Our mission to expand access to education and opportunity remains vital as ever, and it is your work that continues to pave the way for future generations.

I am especially looking forward to our 2025 Commencement Ceremony, where we will celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of more than 780 graduates, including our newly commissioned officers and honor graduates. We will be joined by a very special guest — Senator Angela Alsobrooks, Maryland’s first Black U.S. Senator. A tireless advocate for Prince George’s County and a strong supporter of BSU, she will be awarded the Bowie State University President’s Medallion in recognition of her exemplary leadership and service.

I’d also like to thank all our Commencement volunteers. The ceremony is not successful without your assistance. Staff members who volunteer are not required to return to their posts after Commencement. Please work with your immediate supervisor to amend your schedules.

If you would like to volunteer, please complete the Commencement Volunteer Form. The deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20.

This year’s Commencement will mark not only a celebration of our students but also the close of our Racing to Excellence strategic plan and the beginning of a bold new chapter with the launch of our Boldly Forward strategic plan. Together, we are shaping a future that honors our legacy and embraces the innovation and excellence that define Bowie State.

Thank you, BSU, for all that you do. I look forward to seeing you at Commencement as we honor our graduates, our shared history and our collective vision for the future.

With deep appreciation,

Aminta H. Breaux, Ph.D.

President
