Dr. Eona Harrison of Bowie State's Center for Data Analytics briefed Maryland legislators about the rise of legalized sports gambling among young adults. Her compelling ability to combine data and storytelling prompted policymakers to consider new prevention measures.

Ozzie Newsome Scholars Connect with The Bisciotti Foundation Benefactors at BSU


The first cohort of scholars prepare to graduate in May, and they share how philanthropic support has shaped and enhanced their academic journeys through leadership opportunities, personal growth and peace of mind during their time at BSU.

Equal Justice Now Forum Focuses on Mental Health and Bail Reform


Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump hosted a panel discussion on how bail reform and mental health inequities disproportionately affect Black communities. The event highlighted Bowie State’s growing role in shaping equitable policy and inspiring students to become advocates, leaders and agents of justice.

The powerful daylong event sparked honest conversations about identity, resilience and redefining purpose in every season of life. Dynamic speakers shared stories and cultivated a sense of sisterhood, confidence and clarity, encouraging attendees to bloom boldly where they are planted and step forward with renewed vision.

Journalism Workshop Highlights Importance of Rebuilding HBCU Student Media


BSU students connected with media professionals for hands-on training and insights into the evolving news industry. Journalists emphasized the power of building experience, staying adaptable and reporting critically to better inform the campus community.

Women's Bowling Makes Historic Run at CIAA Championship


The Bulldogs capped an impressive postseason by finishing as runner‑up at the CIAA Women’s Bowling Championship after a series of momentum‑building wins over higher‑seeded opponents.

Future Bulldogs and Families Arrive at BSU to Step into their College Journey


Three hundred incoming students and their families experienced an energetic, resource‑packed event that introduced them to campus life, academic support and student organizations. A key highlight of the day was the announcement of new scholarships, reinforcing the university’s dedication to empowering future Bulldogs.

Chanel Knight: A Longtime Leader with Purpose and a Plan


Chanel Knight ’26 arrived at Bowie State with a deep-rooted passion for leadership, and soon stepped into prominent campus roles. From rebuilding a sorority chapter to interning on Capitol Hill, Knight's experiences reinforce her belief in seizing opportunities and building meaningful connections at BSU.

Creating Pathways of Support: Dr. Karmalita Contee Makes Impactful Connections


After 32 years in the corporate world, Dr. Contee returned to Bowie State to cultivate meaningful ties between donors and scholarship recipients through the Division of Philanthropic Engagement. She's also the recipient of a kidney transplant, adding greater depth to her BSU mission.

Calling all walkers, joggers, and runners! Lace up your sneakers and join us for the Bulldog 5K Walk/Run in support of our student-athletes! This year’s walk/run is held in memory of the late Clyde Doughty, Jr. whose legacy of leadership and dedication to Bowie State athletics continues to inspire the Bulldog community.

The National Football League, in partnership with the Black College Football Hall of Fame, announced the players attending the 2026 HBCU Showcase presented by Microsoft Copilot, to be held March 28-30 in Ashburn, Virginia. Bowie State's Jamal Jones, DL, is among the players selected.

Five HBCUs to Participate in New Initiative to Advance Workforce Outcomes for Students

The Lumina Foundation selected 16 colleges and universities across the United States to participate in “From Campus to Career,” a new initiative designed to strengthen workforce outcomes for students through engagement and experiential learning opportunities linked to clear workforce pathways. Bowie State was among 5 participating HBCUs.
