Deidre Mathis '13 is the only Black woman in the U.S. to own a hostel, welcoming more than 15,000 guests to date at her Houston, TX accomodation. She credits her graduate degree in Communications for helping her to get her business message across.

Digging Into the Business of Women in Agriculture


Cutting-edge research explores the challenges women in the Caribbean and Latin America face while managing farms and other agricultural businesses. Elando Serrano '26 and Tiwaloluwa Dapo-Adeyemo '28 collected data on factors affecting productivity in those regions, including income, education and legal structures.

When Debra Lee decided to pursue her doctoral degree, she chose a university she had long admired. Growing up in Baltimore City, she held Bowie State University in high regard as Maryland’s first HBCU. She chose the online doctoral program in educational leadership for its emphasis on leadership, research and service, and for her longstanding commitment to education.

The umbrella organization's mission is to expand world-class research, accelerate innovation, expand the influence of HBCUs in research policy circles and strengthen the institutional infrastructure of HBCUs and reinforce research capabilities.
