Dear Bulldog Nation,
What an extraordinary Homecoming celebration! As we conclude a memorable week of fellowship, school spirit, and Bulldog pride, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our entire Bowie State University community for making Homecoming 2026 such a tremendous success.
Homecoming is more than a celebration. It is a time to honor our rich history, reconnect with cherished traditions, welcome alumni home, and celebrate the enduring bonds that unite generations of Bulldogs. This year's festivities reflected the very best of Bowie State University — our pride, resilience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to community.
I offer special thanks to our Homecoming Committee and the many departments, faculty, staff, students, alumni, volunteers, and community partners whose dedication and hard work made this celebration possible. Planning and executing a week of activities of this magnitude requires extraordinary coordination, collaboration, and attention to detail. I especially commend our teams in Conference and Event Services, Student Affairs, and Alumni Engagement for their leadership, creativity, and countless hours of preparation. Your efforts created opportunities for our students and alumni to celebrate together while strengthening the connections that make Bulldog Nation so special.
Special thanks to the Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland Transit Administration for providing free MARC Train rides to and from Bowie State University on Homecoming Day, helping alumni, students and visitors travel to campus and join in the celebration.
I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Bowie State University Department of Public Safety for its proactive planning, professionalism, and careful attention throughout the festivities. Homecoming brings both excitement and significant responsibilities. Our public safety team worked diligently to balance the safety and security of our campus community and visitors with the treasured traditions, welcoming atmosphere, and joy that we all hope to experience during Homecoming. Their thoughtful approach, along with the cooperation of our campus community, helped make this celebration one we can all appreciate.
As we reflect on the week's many highlights, there is much to celebrate! From the uplifting sounds of the Gospel Choir Concert that launched our festivities, to the elegance and pageantry of the Royal Court Coronation, the spirited performances of the Step Show, and the energy of the Homecoming Concert, each event showcased the extraordinary talents and enthusiasm of our students. The excitement continued with our Homecoming Parade, which brought together students, alumni, families, and friends in a wonderful display of Bulldog pride.
Heartfelt thanks to our very own SOS Band for bringing tremendous energy, excitement, and Bulldog spirit to the parade and festivities throughout the day. Our Grand Marshal, WUSA9 Emmy Award-winning anchor Wisdom Martin, truly showed up and showed out, bringing his infectious enthusiasm and high energy to the parade and game-day celebrations. We were also honored to welcome Governor Wes Moore as a special guest in the parade. His participation added to the excitement and joyful atmosphere of an unforgettable Homecoming celebration, making the day even more special for the entire Bulldog Nation!
And what a thrilling finish at Bulldog Stadium! Congratulations to Head Football Coach Dawson Odums, his coaching staff, and our Bulldog football team for an exciting 16–13 Homecoming victory! Our student-athletes demonstrated determination, teamwork, and Bulldog tenacity, giving our fans another memorable moment to celebrate. I also thank our marching band, cheerleaders, student organizations, and all who contributed to the electric atmosphere that made game day so special.
The celebrations continued with our Alumni Brunch, a fitting conclusion to a remarkable Homecoming weekend. Special thanks to the Elior Dining Services team for helping us close the festivities with warm hospitality and an enjoyable gathering. It was especially heartwarming to welcome our Golden Graduates and alumni representing many decades of Bowie State history. As they reminisced about their experiences and renewed friendships, many expressed delight and surprise at the transformation of the campus. From the expansion of our academic facilities to the beauty of the autumn colors across our grounds, their observations reminded us how far Bowie State has come while remaining firmly rooted in the values and traditions that define our institution.
These moments of reflection are especially meaningful. Our alumni are living witnesses to the University's history, and their stories remind us that the Bowie State experience extends far beyond graduation. Each generation contributes to the legacy we have inherited and the future we are building together.
Finally, thank you to the Facilities team, participating student organizations and everyone who contributed to Sunday’s annual Homecoming cleanup. Your willingness to give your time and energy following a busy week demonstrates what it means to respect and care for our campus home. By helping restore our grounds, supporting recycling efforts, and advancing our sustainability goals, you affirmed that Bulldog pride is reflected not only in how we celebrate, but also in how we care for the place we share.
As I reflect on this year's Homecoming, I am reminded that the strength of Bowie State University is found in its people. The commitment of our faculty and staff, the talents and enthusiasm of our students, the loyalty of our alumni, and the uplift of our supporters make this institution extraordinary. Homecoming offered a powerful reminder that, even as our university evolves and grows, the spirit of Bulldog Nation remains strong.
