Dear BSU Community,
We welcome and appreciate the recent Executive Order to promote excellence and innovation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This Executive Order reaffirms the vital role our nation’s more than 100 HBCUs play in advancing education and economic opportunity.
For 160 years, Bowie State University has been a powerful engine of economic mobility and community development. The recent study conducted by the United Negro College Fund shows HBCUs bring in $16.5B in economic benefit to our community. With provisions like the HBCU Partners Act, this renewed federal commitment will strengthen our ability to lead in innovation and research — efforts that expand opportunities for our students and faculty, bolster the workforce, and stimulate growth across our region.
Looking ahead, Bowie State is deeply engaged in shaping a future-facing approach to higher education. In a rapidly changing world shaped by technological disruption, global challenges, and evolving workforce demands, we are actively advancing programs that prepare our students not just for today’s opportunities — but for the careers and communities of tomorrow. Our commitment to innovation, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration ensures that both current and future generations of learners are equipped to lead and thrive in a dynamic landscape.
I am looking forward to launching our new strategic plan, Boldly Forward, later this year and remain encouraged by the momentum this Executive Order brings for our continued progress. In this 160th anniversary year, we continue to move boldly forward to build on our legacy of excellence and innovation.
We extend our appreciation for the signing of this Executive Order, which supports the continued success of Bowie State University.
Sincerely,
Aminta H. Breaux
President
Bowie State University
