Handel’s Messiah at Bowie State Brings the Community Together
Bowie State University’s Concert Choir, regional choirs and renowned guest artists will perform the third annual Messiah Community Concert in the Dionne Warwick Theater at Bowie State’s Fine and Performing Arts Center to celebrate the holiday season with the campus and greater Prince George’s County community. Tickets for the Dec. 11, 7 p.m. event are available online.
BSU’s Concert Choir, under the direction of music professor Brandon Felder, will perform selections from Handel’s Messiah with celebrated musicians, including guest artists Dr. Chelsey Green and The Green Project, Skip Pruitt and a surprise GRAMMY Award-winning musical performer. Green and her group are nationally known for playing various genres of music on the violin and viola, while Pruitt is a highly regarded saxophonist.
“This event will showcase the incredible talent at Bowie State while fostering connections with the greater community,” said Felder. “It’s an opportunity to bring people together through music and create a memorable holiday experience.”
The evening will begin with a complimentary mix and mingle reception in the FPAC Atrium, allowing attendees to connect before the concert. Earlier in the day, guests can experience an exclusive open microphone sound check offering a behind-the-scenes look at concert preparation.
“With such an impressive lineup, attendees can expect a dynamic evening of classical and contemporary music,” said Felder. "Dr. Chelsey Green, the Green Project, and Skip Pruitt are rising stars in the industry, and they bring it. They’ll make our Messiah Concert very special that people will remember for years.”
